The Music Place in Sydney is proud to present Dale Barlow in Concert & Clinic featuring Brendan Clarke & Dave Goodman in store (496 Parramatta Rd Petersham) 7pm Thursday 12th October.

Barlow is one of Australia's most accomplished and internationally recognised jazz artists, Dale was a member of legendary American groups The Cedar Walton Quartet, and Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, two of the greatest training grounds for young musicians in jazz history. 

Widely recognised as an inspiring, virtuosic and original Tenor saxophonist/ composer, he is also an accomplished flautist/bass clarinettist/ arranger and pianist. As a composer he has written for large and small ensemble, film, theatre and television, and recorded extensively.

His credits include touring and recording with some of the all-time greats: Sonny Stitt, Chet Baker, Gil Evans, Jackie McLean, Billy Cobham, Curtis Fuller, Eddie Palmieri, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Golson, Lee Konitz, Sonny Stitt, Helen Merryl, Mulgrew Miller, Cindy Blackman, Ernie Watts, Eddie Henderson, Kenny Barron, Ray Drummond, Billy Higgins, Cedar Walton and, of course the original Jazz Messenger, Art Blakey.

Born into a musical family, Dale (born Dec 25 1960) was highly acclaimed at a very early age in Australia as featured soloist with various youth big bands and small groups. By the age of 17 he was reluctantly being coupled with touring American jazz greats by agents excited at showing off Australian young talent. He toured with one of his idols, Sonny Stitt. After completing his musical studies at the NSW conservatorium, he moved to New York to further hone his musical skills and be part of the greatest Jazz scene in the world. He studied saxophone with George Coleman and Dave Liebman piano with Barry Harris, and Hal Galper, and won a scholarship to study at the "Jazz composers workshop" with Bob Brookmeyer and Manny Album. During this time he worked the New York Scene and toured the world constantly, performing regularly at major jazz festivals throughout the USA., Canada, Europe, Japan, Asia and the Soviet Union, and recording with many of the great Jazz Artists.

Since returning to Australia, Dale has received numerous awards and accolades including: Album of the Year/ Jazz performer of the year/ International Artist of the Year/ Bicentennial Artist of the Year, four Mo Awards and numerous grants and credits for his for his achievements and contribution to the arts In Australia. Dale is a Master of Music (Australian National University), appears regularly on television and enjoys excellent media attention.

Dave Goodman moved to Sydney in January 1995 to study at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where he was awarded a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours, and, in early 1996 at the age of eighteen, he began working with the Mike Nock Quartet.

Since winning second place in the National Jazz Awards in 1997, Dave has played music with a diverse range of artists, including visiting U.S. artists Bob Berg, James Williams, Paul Bollenback, Daryl Grant, Bruce Paulson, Chris McNulty, and Phillip Johnston, as well as local icons James Morrison, Don Burrows, Bernie McGann, Geoff Harvey, Deni Hines, Billy Field, Judy Bailey, Dale Barlow, Sandy Evans, Mark Isaacs, James Muller, Emma Pask, Shelley Scown and Mark Trevorrow (a.k.a. Bob Downe).

Dave composes for and leads his own projects, performing for SIMA and the Jazzgroove Association. In 2002 Dave recorded several original compositions for Jim McLeod's Jazztrack radio program on ABC Classic FM at the instigation of the late, great co-producer/engineer Neale Sandbache. He was also awarded third place in the 2004 National Jazz Awards.

Since moving to Sydney in 1999, Brendan has performed and recorded with some of Australia's foremost Jazz Musicians including: Dale Barlow, Bernie McGann, Vince Jones, Bobby Gebert, Mike Nock, James Morrison, John Morrison, Kristen Cornwell, Sandy Evans, George Washingmachine, Emma Pask, James Muller and Dave Panichi. Brendan is also of member of three of Sydney’s most exciting big bands; The Sydney All Star Big Band, Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra and the Evan Loehning Jazz Orchestra.

In 2001 Brendan was the winner of the National Jazz Awards. In 2001 he was a member of the Willow Nielson Quartet which gained third place in Jazz Hoilaart, a band competition in Belgium. In 2002 he was a member of the Sandy Evans Trio which toured Germany including a performance at the Berlin Jazz festival. In 2003 Brendan played at the Locarno film festival in Switzerland with the David Blenkhorn Quartet. In November of 2004 Brendan was a member of prominent Sydney band "Theaktet" which toured throughout Europe with performances in Belgium, Austria, Germany, Luxemburg and Holland culminating in a recording in Oslo, Norway at Rainbow Studios.
