339 Clarendon Street, South Melbourne :: The Music Place

Ash Jackman - Head Technician :: A flute foot joint may become loose fitting to the flute body over a period of time. Here, Ash is re-finishing and re-sizing the tenon of the body so that the footjoint will fit perfectly again. The last thing any flautist needs is for the foot joint to fall off the end of the flute and drop to the floor - not only embarrassing but potentially, very costly to repair. Whether you play a trumpet, sax, clarinet, trombone or any other woodwind or brass instrument, we suggest that you regularly do preventive maintenance checks - if you are not sure what you need to do - please feel free to visit one of our stores and spend some time with our technicians - they are always pleased to walk you through these basic steps. Shaun Comerford - General Manager :: Here is Shaun discussing the differences in key touch shapes with a university flute student. He is explaining why different flutes will suit different hand and finger sizes and shapes better than others. The Music Place has a very large range of flutes from inexpensive secondhand instruments to handmade orchestral flutes and headjoints. Feel free to spend as much time as you like trying out lots of flutes and headjoints - you may be very surprised with the results - at least you may just have a lot of fun. Also, you are always welcome to ask as many technical questions as you want - our time is your time - always! Cal Barry - Technician :: Cal is pictured here with Robyn who has been playing cornet for a while but is now considering playing trumpet also. We have a huge range of brass instruments, mouthpieces and accessories to chose from. You will always be encouraged to feel comfortable and test play as many instruments as you like. We are always happy to share information and discuss the technical differences betwen different brands and models - let us help you to see why one instrument will respond and sound differently to another and that there will always be a perfect combination for each individual. The Music Place also has ranges of instruments and mouthpieces which are not available at any other stores in Australia. A visit is a must do for all brass players. Ash Jackman - Head Technician :: Many students and players love to hang out at The Music Place. Whether you are a young beginner, an advancing student, a professional muso or an adult sax afficianado, you will feel very welcome and relaxed at our stores. You can lose hours so easily here - trying out Australia's largest sax mouthpiece range, vintage horns, new prototype Temby sax designs, lots and lots of secondhand and new horns from most of the famous brands, mouthpieces, reeds and other sax bits that are only available at The Music Place stores. Plus - talking sax blah! - You never know who you may run into in The Music Place stores - maybe Pharoah Sanders, Joe Camilleri, Tower of Power horn section, University sax lecturers and tutors, maybe your own teacher or one of the many professsional sax players and recording artists who are frequent customers and visitors. You may even be able to pick up a gig or two. One thing is for sure though - we are known internationally as being one of the worlds famous dedicated saxophone specialist stores. Shaun Comerford General Manager :: While Shaun is still talking flutes - you will see part of our extensive clarinet collection. For sale are many clarinets from the famous French makers plus many others from professional right down to inexpensive secondhand and new beginner instruments. We always encourage customers to test play clarinets and take as much time as is needed to make the right choice. We have spent decades developing our knowledge of all the different brands and models and encourage you to use our expertise to help you decide on your purchase. The Music Place is also famous for our huge range of mouthpieces, reeds and many other clarinet accessories which are exclusive to our stores.
