Bad fitting cases cause damage

Bad fitting case :: The most common cause of bent instruments

The most common cause of bent instruments is an incorrectly fitting case. Even without being dropped, a case that does not fit your instrument correctly can cause damage and bending to your treasured instrument.

Wood clarinets need bore oil

Oil the swab first :: Then pull it through the bore (you should soak the swab - do not dribble it on like this)

Wood, as a living material, is very susceptible to changes in temperature and humidity. With heat, wood expands and when it gets colder, the reverse happens.

Cork grease

Applying cork grease will save the corks on your instruments.

Saxophone necks and clarinet, oboe and bassoon tenons all use cork to create or assist the seal of the mouthpiece or joints. This is a fantastic revolution and allows for a far greater seal and stability within the instrument.

The Music Place was selected as the official repair centre for the recent Melbourne International Festival of Brass. The festival is an annual event on the world's brass calander. Attracting a very large number of local, interstate and overseas attendees and artists, the festival runs for a week each September/October. This year featured an exquisite line up of guest artists and clinicians.
