F.E. Olds is an American company that was established in 1908 by a young enthusiastic ex worker at G.G. Conn in Elkhart. Leaving Conn to begin his own manufacturing of brass and woodwind instruments F.E. designed and created some of the best.
This particular secondhand F.E. Olds Bb/F Trombone is from the later years when some companies were searching for ways to reduce costs. So this one was made by Blessing and stamped with the Olds name under license, which has been a common way to produce a lower cost instrument, with a lot of other companies doing the same.
It plays very well indeed, with the slide running ever so smoothly, some would even say like butter. It has a medium bore with a small shank, a closed-wrap F tubing providing just the right amount of back pressure for an intermediate player. A warm, silky sound is what you get from this trombone, with the ability to push it further than most without the sound braking.
