Original Works Commission

It's a tough time for musicians and we want to continue supporting you as best we can. The Music Place will be commissioning an original musical work that we will record and then sell, with all funds raised being donated to Support Act.

Musicians and composer are invited to submit expressions of interest for the creation of a new original work.

The successful applicant will receive $750 on completion of the work.

The composition should be:

  • 5 - 10 minutes duration
  • Scored for an ensemble (at least octet). Jazz combo to orchestra and anything in-between. There must, however, be at least a brass and /or woodwind part(s).
  • Any genre
  • The composition should tackle themes of; uniting through music, community, hope, and/or dealing with isolation.

The Music Place will facilitate a recording of the musical work with the intention to sell the finished track as a fundraiser with all proceeds going to Support Act.

Expressions of interest will be open until April 8th and should be submitted by email.

Expressions of interest should clearly state the intended ensemble and instrumentation, the central theme being explored, the proposed genre, examples of previous compositions (audio recording or score excerpts). A short description of why you would like to take on this commission.

Copywrite will remain with the composer. By accepting the commission the composer grants an unconditional license to The Music Place to perform, record, broadcast and sell recordings of the work. The composer agrees to sign documents that enact this.
